The Roxy Art House RIP
As I’m sure most of you will know, The Roxy has been closed down due to the bankruptcy of their owners - Edinburgh University Settlements. I’m trying my best to relocate the upcoming Taco Bells and Pekko Kappi gig scheduled for the 12th November amongst some other gigs that had yet to be announced, so i’ll keep you posted on that in due course. I’d just like to thank everyone there who helped at each of the gigs and made them all possible! Some great memories from our Roxy Gigs already - a few which spring to mind were the post Heatsick disco with some shirtless antics and Stellar OM hitting the decks a few months later, smoking cigars with Mr Basho-Junghans, The Black Twigs absolutely killing it in the theatre space, blinding sets from the likes of James and Spencer from The Skaters, Muscletusk, Brittle Hammer, Islaja, and countless other performers. Not to mention all of the other concerts and events which had a such a positive vibe about them, and to think it was all over within 10 months! Sad times, indeed. Despite a few teething problems here and there - it injected a new life into a town which is notoriously difficult to book in with it’s very reasonable and risk free deals for promoters. Something which ALL the venues in Edinburgh could learn from. The real kick in the balls is that Roxy was actually turning a profit on top of it all, so hopefully the bank will see sense in letting this place run independently because it’ll make me a little sick in my stomach having to walk passed an empty building for years to come. Raise a glass!
